You in this role

The Project Management Officer at GMF plays a central role in advancing the organization's annual priorities and Strategic Plan, with a particular focus on cross-functional initiatives such as the Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation (LLCA) program launch and its interactions with other GMF funding opportunities. This role involves comprehensive oversight of every facet of the project, ensuring that deliverables align with defined objectives, scope and budget. The Project Management Officer collaborates closely with the project team, overseeing every stage of the project life cycle, from inception and planning to execution, performance monitoring, and eventual closure. In addition, the incumbent integrates change management principles, effectively manages risks, and maintains transparent communication with stakeholders at every project phase. Importantly, this position embodies FCM's commitment to fostering a healthy, diverse, inclusive, and anti-racist organizational culture.

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Project Planning: Develops a comprehensive project plan. This involves defining project scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, resource allocation, dependencies and risk management strategies. The plan serves as a roadmap for the project's execution.
  • Resource Management: Supports Project Leads in identifying the necessary resources, such as team members to execute the project efficiently, ensuring that the right people with the required skills are available when needed.
  • Task Assignment: Assigns specific tasks and responsibilities to team members ensuring that each team member knows their role and has a clear understanding of their responsibilities.
  • Monitoring and Control: Monitors the progress of the project throughout its lifecycle tracking key performance indicators, decisions, budgets and timelines, identifying any deviations from the plan and taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Risk Management: Through a Risk Registry, supports the team members in identifying potential risks, developing risk mitigation strategies, and implementing them to minimize the impact of unforeseen events on the project.
  • Communication: Facilitates communication among team members and stakeholders. They must provide regular updates on project status, issues, and progress toward objectives.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensures the quality of project deliverables through the establishment and enforcement of quality standards.
  • Scope Management: Manages project scope to prevent scope creep by documenting and evaluating proposed scope changes, obtaining approval when necessary.
  • Stakeholder Management: Builds and maintains positive relationships. Addresses stakeholder concerns, manages expectations, and ensures that the project aligns with stakeholder needs and interests.
  • Conflict Resolution: Supports Project Leads in resolving conflicts in a constructive manner to maintain project momentum and harmony.
  • Logistics and facilitation: Coordinates and co-facilitates with Project Leads team meetings.

 

Your skills make us better 

You bring:    

  • Bachelor's degree in project management, business management or a related discipline.
  • PMP certification is a plus.
  • Asana knowledge and experience is a plus.
  • 5+ years of successful medium- to large-scale project management at the organizational level.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex projects from initiation to closure.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning, organizing work, time management, attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take initiative and be adaptable.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with conflicting priorities and tight deadlines
  • Ability to proactively identify and resolve complect project challenges

The future of work at FCM includes a hybrid work model; therefore, this role will be a combination of virtual and on-site work. The successful candidate is required to live within 80 km of downtown Ottawa and be authorized to work in Canada.
