You in this role

You have a passion for climate action, building resilient communities, and improving the lives of Canadians. 

As the Communications Officer, you will be working with a collaborative, dynamic team of expert communicators supporting bold climate action at the local level.

You will be playing a key role within FCM’s Programs Communications unit by supporting and executing communications and marketing strategies that showcase the value and impact of the Green Municipal Fund. In this role, you’ll produce clear, compelling, and message-focused strategic communications products centred around GMF’s funding and knowledge products for municipalities, including web content, e-communications and social media.

To be successful here, you’ll need strong project management skills, the ability to work with cross-departmental teams and a flexible approach.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Creates and/or edits copy for promotional and social media content in both French and English 
  • Coordinates the production of communications tools (e.g. web content, promotional material, social media content, e-bulletins, reports, presentations, guidebooks, case studies, videos) from concept, design, writing, editing and translation through to production, quality assurance and publication;  
  • Substantively edits, copy-edits and conducts quality assurance, ensures appropriate document structure, grammatical accuracy, adherence to editorial standards and FCM style guide in both French and English;  
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of FCM-wide editorial and design standards for communications materials;
  • Gathers analytics related to social media and website to ensure continuous improvement in the development and dissemination of program information and resources; 
  • Assesses the quality of existing communications vehicles and the efficiency of document development processes among FCM business units and with external suppliers, and recommends to manager and implement methods to improve existing vehicles, systems and processes to meet communications and performance objectives
  • May be called upon to participate in cross-functional teamwork

 

Your skills make us better 

  • Post-secondary education in a communications or related field such as Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or similar
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a professional communications or marketing role 
  • Strong knowledge in the areas of communications project management, writing and editing  
  • Strong knowledge of best practices and experience in developing digital communications products, writing for the web, blogs and social media 
  • Experience with paid social media campaign management, search engine optimization, content strategy or content marketing best practices  
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously and meet tight deadlines 
  • Knowledge of financial services, affordable housing, municipal government environmentally sustainable development 
  • Knowledge of collecting and analyzing digital analytics and campaign KPIs.
  • Ability to use graphic design tools such as Canva is an asset 
  • Strong political acumen and tact 
  • Excellent planning and priority management skills 
  • Strong adaptability and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong customer service orientation 
  • Excellent oral and written capacity in English; French is an asset.

The future of work at FCM includes a hybrid work model; therefore, this role will be a combination of virtual and on-site work. The successful candidate is required live within 80kms of downtown Ottawa and be authorized to work in Canada.
